EXPLORING NEW DIRECTIONS AND NEW POSSIBILITIES IN MUSIC COMPOSITION.
LOTS OF DIFFERENT STYLES AND APPROACHES, EVERY PIECE A MUSICAL EXPLORATION. GIVE YOUR EARS A TREAT!

NOTE ON PLAYING MIDI FILES: All my MIDI works are meant to be played using the standard Microsoft GS Wavetable. Usage of any other wavetable will give unintended results. By all means experiment if you have the capability, but please be aware that what you end up with will not be what I intended!
Also, some MIDI files played on Winamp before version 5.3 (and it appears, after 5.541) will not play correctly. If you use Winamp, please up/downgrade to a version between 5.3 and 5.541 (incl), or alternatively, download this version or go here where you can download ANY version of Winamp.

Pete's Piano Piece   1978  01:58This piece isn't actually by me, but my friend Peter, who improvised this little piece immediately before my 'opus zero' piece in 1978. I've converted it into a MIDI file, and I reckon it's pretty good! What do you think?
James's Piece   2002  06:43This isn't by me either, but Peter's son who made this at the age of 13. Well, he actually made the first half of it, then I took the liberty of adding a reversal of the whole piece to make it palindromic (and twice the length, obviously.) It sounds quite radical, but I like it because it also looks good when viewed in piano-roll fashion. This is what you might call "visual music" of the kind promoted by the composer Cornelius Cardew. To see what I mean, take a look at this score by Cardew, and this image created by me in Cakewalk from James's piece. Cool, eh? (This piece also has the distinction of being the only piano piece ever written as far as I know, which contains a chord comprising every single note of the piano played simultaneously!)
Jessica's First Piece   2002  00:30And we mustn't leave out James's sister Jessica who was six years old when she penned this masterpiece. Don't laugh - she's now 10 and making great strides as a composer!
Jessica's Sextet   2004  01:55Another brilliant piece by Jessica - this time involving six instruments - and all done before the age of eight. Watch out for this genius in the future...
Jessica's third piece   2004  01:00And another masterpiece by the same composer. All done without any help. Okay so it's a bit 'modern' sounding, but even Mozart had to start somewhere.

I thought I'd have a go a "sequencing" a Pink Floyd track - this one (as far as I know) has never been tackled by anyone else, so I've given it the "Elwood" treatment - and why not? It's quite similar to my insane musical style anyway, and the whole album "Ummagumma" was highly influential on me back in the 70's, being possibly the most experimental rock album ever at the time. (Check out my version of "Several Species .." which I did in 1976). Pink Floyd fans (The REAL fans) will appreciate this, I'm sure.

Sysyphus, or Sisyphus to use the accepted spelling, was condemmed by the Gods to roll a stone up a hill for eternity, in case you didn't know.

n.b. I've always wondered if Rick Wright's piano survived the awesome pounding he gives it in this piece. (3rd part more or less done, final part in progress. This is HARD! It's a matter of listening very closely to the original recording, taking it apart bar by bar - if you can find the bars, which sometimes you can't - and then reproducing all the various noises with MIDI instruments, including all the pitch bends and so on.If anyone thinks they can do a better job, go ahead! This is probably the weirdest music PF ever wrote, and on first hearing it's unMIDIfyable. But then I could never resist a challenge.) I started this in 2003, then left it uncompleted for 5 years (kicking around on a piece of ground in my home town...) and now in 2008 I've finally decided to finish it off. Almost there...

By popular demand, I have also sequenced the famous "Gallery" theme tune from the 60's children's TV series "Vision On". I wanted a copy of this for my Album Covers page, but I couldn't find a decent version anywhere on the Net so I made this one myself. It's a faithful note-perfect reproduction of the original piece, including the seldom heard coda at the end.

The second link here is the same piece but with some extra embellishments I decided to add to it. I suppose this is always how I sort of imagined the piece to continue, as it was rarely heard in its entirety on the show.
