Play Size Mins Interference ("The Violence Concerto") op.15 (1980)
Complete work    16Mb  25:25 Created using mostly sounds generated by interference patterns. Frightening! Sounds like nothing you've ever heard before, I guarantee. A single continuous 25 minute piece but broken up here into seven sections for easier download.
Excursion part 1    2Mb  03:24 Low pulsed tones dominate, pounding out of both speakers with subtle trumpet sounds in the background. An arrival or landing of some kind perhaps?
Excursion part 2    2Mb  03:03 More brass sounds; announcing something slightly sinister. These fade gradually to reveal a barren electronic soundscape.
Landscapes    2Mb  03:01 Unearthly wisps of sound drift to and fro menacingly. Don't take your helmet off. The atmosphere shimmers with strange patterns. Something literally gibbers in the background (and I have no idea what it is. This happens occasionally; vaguely human sounds appear in the mix that I didn't put there intentionally. It happened in Ghost in the Machine and also stunningly in Dreamer of Dreams where I swear you can almost hear somebody lecturing. You can't, it's random noise, but spooky anyway.)
Panic    3Mb  04:19 A stark chord blasts out, followed by a strident hammering beat. Raucous threatening tones ring out. The hammering continues relentlessly, while chords continue to poke and prod. Nothing here is familiar. The scene becomes cloudy, less distinct but more ominous. Then suddenly the fog is lifted to reveal...
Pandemic    3Mb  04:56 The same barren alien landscape as before, but it now shimmers with some sort of life. The fanfares sound again, but distorted through the haze. Sounding a warning perhaps. A clear tone cuts briefly through the maelstrom like a beacon, before being drowned out by some sort of explosion. Another hammering beat, but more distant. Then a galloping beat - then two, then three.
Morals    2Mb  05:01 The galloping crosses the horizon in the distance, then turns and approaches, and runs straight into another explosion which seems to clear away the haze. Solid organ chords are heard for the first time, and the semblance of a tune. A pathetic tune though, full of remorse at something. The sound crumples as if a plug is pulled, and becomes a creeping shivering remnant, which fractures further into a lolloping pulsating mass shuttling between the speakers. Then it's transformed into the atmospheric sounds from earlier, but with some added groaning sounds. The organ chords continue to lament in the background, then seem to come to an angry conclusion and then a final defiant chord.
Recursion    1Mb  01:35 The ship lifts off again and leaves this cursed world.
