Too soon
“Tell me you love me”, she said
a week since first we kissed.
A smile was all she received -
her request was hard to resist.
“Tell me you love me” she asked
the next encounter we shared.
I fumbled a kiss, then departed -
my emotions had to be spared.
“Please say you love me” she whispered,
“I need to hear your voice.”
I battled the urge to respond,
not wanting to make the choice.
“Just say it once,” she pleaded -
I had to release the pain.
I tore the words free from my heart...
I never saw her again.
