| Elegy for Electronic Sounds |
1983 | 11:46 |
An early electronic soundscape made on the Crumar synthesiser. Contemplative but highly abstract. Not one of my best works by a long way, but certainly an indicator of the kind of direction I was heading in at the time. |
| Andromeda Song |
1984 | 10:35 |
A wierd synth piece with "alien" voices, supplied by my 1984 girlfriend Tracey. Inspired by pieces by Luciano Berio and Cathy Berberian. I've always found the juxtaposition of human voice and electronics fascinating. I used the same combination in my 2005 piece Dreamer of Dreams to better effect. |
| Intermezzos One & Two |
1986 | 10:24 7:53 |
Abstract digital synthesiser pieces made on the Yamaha CX5M computer. Pretty electronic doodles. |
| Spooky Sonata |
1986 | 12:00 |
A piece I rediscovered recently and cleaned up - this was actually composed (if that's the right word) by my cat Spooky walking up and down on my keyboards. With a little bit of careful editing it now sounds quite creepy. |
| Ghost in the Machine |
1986 | 10:45 |
I can't date this piece exactly but it was made around the same time as the intermezzos. Originally called Brainwash because of the unintended mains hum throughout the original piece, which probably explains why I left it at the back of the drawer. Re-edited with Sound Forge with added chorus & reverb effects, and renamed "Ghost in the Machine" (you'll know why when you hear it) it's an interesting laid-back abstract piece. |
| Waldorf Salad |
2002 | 4:34 |
An unfinished synth piece - basically a just few ideas thrown together. Composed on the Waldorf synthesiser. |
Electronic Intermezzo no.3 |
2002 |
7:33 |
Abstract synth piece made on the Waldorf, but sounding remarkably similar in style to the first two intermezzos I created in 1986 using a completely different setup. Seems I haven't lost my touch! You either love this sort of thing or not; I happen to like abstract music when it's done well like I hope I have done here. |
