I am walking down a subway that is part of a huge concrete complex. There are tunnels and bridges everywhere. I come to an open square where there is a railing around a central hole. I walk to the railing and look down. The drop is not too deep and there is a canopy at the bottom. I know what I have to do. I climb over the rail and jump, trying to aim for the centre of the canopy. Bullseye - I land and roll off onto the ground.

Two women see me fall and help me to my feet, talking in a peculiar language all the time. I am surprised to hear a familiar name in their gabbling - I ask them if they know of ____ and one of them stops and says in my language, "So you're the one he sent? Come inside, it's about to rain."

And indeed it does. Before we can get to the door the rain starts, a torrent of water and noise; I can't hear what they are saying, but I follow them into a small shop where we all sit at a low table, surprisingly still dry. "I am only here for a short time", I tell them, "So you must tell me everything you know quickly. I am not coming back here." I find a piece of blank paper in my pocket and a pen, but the paper is too wet to write on. One of the women finds a newspaper and tears off a large square for me. I try writing as they speak but the newspaper is already covered with type and I can't see what I've written. "That's all the information I have" says the woman, "You must go straight away and get that done."

I walk back in to the pouring rain and down a narrow street that is rapidly turning to a river. I look ahead of me and see the town centre rapidly disappearing underwater. I decide my only option is to turn around and walk back up the hill. Traffic is rushing past me; everybody is hurrying to escape the flood. One car stops beside me and the door opens; I jump in and the driver (whose face I can't see) revs the engine up and the car races up the hill - only to get stuck in a massive traffic jam. I thank him and climb out, then continue to walk up the hill. I look back briefly and wish I hadn't - the water is rushing up towards me, there are bodies of people floating in it.

I start to run towards a tall tower at the top of the hill, I make it just as the tide is lapping at my feet. I rush in to a large carpeted lobby where people are sitting and casually standing around totally unaware of the danger outside. I rush to the lift just as the doors open, run inside and press the button for the top floor. An electronic voice says "Executive suite only. Please enter the code." I jab a few buttons at random. The lift jolts and rushes upwards at high speed. At the top floor it stops, but the doors don't open straight away. I can feel the lift swaying and juddering. There are cracks in the walls and I can see out to the ground a long way below - and the tide of water surrounding the building. I push the lift doors open and step out - just in time as the lift suddenly drops like a stone and I hear a huge splash at the bottom of the shaft. I look around me and find I am actually on the roof of the building, which is swaying and crumbling. There is nowhere to go. There is water everwhere, now it starts splashing over the parapet. The entire building sinks beneath my feet and I am suddenly underwater.
