EARTH PROBE DESTROYED EN ROUTE TO MARS SURFACE

The latest probe from Earth was destroyed by Martian security personnel seconds before it was due to land near a sensitive Martian complex.

"We had no choice but to shoot it from the sky" said a security official today. "It was heading towards a large Martian factory and would have caused severe problems if it had been allowed to land there. Hopefully the Humans will come to the conclusion that it simply crashed."

The "mother ship" remains in orbit some 200 miles above the Martian surface, but is considered to be harmless and will not be interfered with, providing it stays where it is. "If we start shooting every Earth probe out of our skies it would look very suspicious, so we have to use our judgement every time. So far we believe we have not caused any undue suspicion amongst the Humans, but it's only a matter of time before they either see something that they can't explain, or they come to the conclusion that something is interfering with their spacecraft. We endeavour to put that time off for as long as is Martianly possible."
