MARTIANS COMMEMORATE CERENIAN WAR

A month of meditation has started across the whole of Mars today commemorating the millions of Martians and Cerenians who died during the war which finally ended exactly 12000 years ago today.

The reasons why the initial disagreements with inhabitants of the planet Ceres escalated into full-scale war have been lost in the mists of time, but every Martian alive today understands the heavy cost the Cerenians paid all those years ago, and the Asteroid Belt is a permanent reminder of the futility of war. We must constantly remind ourselves that we must never again be goaded into retaliating in such a violent and arrogant manner to any of our neighbours, whatever the cost to ourselves.

This is all the more relevant today, as we watch our other neighbours strive to reach our planet in search of knowledge. How will they react when they discover Mars is not dead as they suspect, but very old and very much wiser than their own civilisations? We must not make the same mistakes again, even if it means our own demise. There can be no greater crime than Geocide.
