SIRIAN DELEGATION ARRIVES AT OLYMPUS MONS
The long-awaited delegation from our nearest stellar neighbours Sirius arrived today for a high-level summit meeting at Olympus Mons. The Saturnians arrived a few days ago and preparations are almost ready for a system-wide link-up with all of our Sol neighbours - at least those that share a common concern about the recent developments on Earth. The Venusians as usual didn't reply to our telepathic call, and the Plutonians casually dismissed the whole saga as "past history" (See here for overview of our Solar System's intelligent species)
The summit will address the current explosion of interest in space travel by the Humans of Earth, and whether or not they pose a threat to any of us. As we Martians are closest to them and best able to observe their behaviour we have already pointed out their aggressiveness and single-minded "tunnel vision" when they get excited about something - and at the moment their primary concern seems to be to get into space at all costs. We are at a loss to explain why their sudden interest in space has come about, but preparations need to be made to counteract any conceivable threat from them, hence this summit. Our magnificent canal system was successfully hidden under the Martian sands half a century ago when it came to our attention that the Humans were developing primitive telescopes which would be able to see them. We need to discuss what other preparations we may need to take to hide our presence from them, lest we become a target for their violence.
