COMET ON COLLISION COURSE WITH EARTH
The comet designated ("Tunguska" - Martian name untranslateable - E. Herring) struck the Earth today as predicted by Martian astronomers.
The impact was seen edge-on from the Olympus Mons observatory, and appeared to cause a certain amount of damage around the area where it entered the atmosphere. It is unknown whether there were any casualties on the planet itself.
The dominant species on Earth are currently only at a level 2 civilisation, and amazingly have only just discovered electricity, so any kind of extra-terrestrial contact is totally out of the question at present. However, they do seem to be advancing rapidly after a millennium of almost total inaction, and may need to be watched more closely in the near future. We currently know very little about them, but many observers of the planet feel that our complacency towards them must end immediately. The last thing we want is to end up in a situation similar to the stand-off with the Cerenians nearly 12,000 years ago, which caused us to over-react violently with catastrophic results.
